| Different Depths Of AcupunctureAcupuncture – What is this Ancient Science About?
Acupuncture is an ancient science in use for thousands of years. At the core of it, it is about using fine needles to stimulate blood flow. But, the Chinese used the term qi or chi as in life energy. They believe that the moment this life energy is stuck in certain meridian points in the body, we will fall ill or suffer from bad health.
Short News: Acupuncture and Its Origin
It is interesting to note that acupuncture was introduced from China to Japan and Korea since the pre-historic age. It was widely used in these cultures. However, it was only in the 17th century that it was brought to Europe. For the U.S., due to President Nixon’s diplomatic visit to China in 1970, it was thus introduced to the United States.
Blockages along the meridians restrict the flow of chi through our bodies. This oriental therapy of physical and formless energy rebalancing act is achieved through pressure points and meridians “fine-tuning”. While needles are generally used, it is really possible to do acupuncture without needles.
Needles Used in Acupuncture
On the average, needles from 34 gauge to 38 gauge in size are generally inserted to a depth of up to a quarter of an inch. Then the needles are to stay in place for several minutes to an hour. Blockages along pathways (meridians) repletions (excess qi) or depletions (insufficient qi) are adjusted to get an even flow. Each acupressure point is best suited for different conditions rather than a one size fits all meridian points. There is precision in the treatment.
What is the Effect of Acupuncture Treatment?
Contrary to common belief – poking needles into the body is painful – strangely, most people do not feel any pain. It is in fact even a “feel good” feeling. Generally, the practitioner will stimulate a few meridian points at the same time for one particular ailment. And this may take 2 to 15 needles depending on needs.
