Chinese Still Teach Acupuncture For Health

Many people have heard about the benefits of an acupuncture treatment. And, the Chinese are still teaching it, not only in the academies, but also to the public. The key to acupuncture is whether it may work for you.

What Exactly is Acupuncture, and How Does It Work?

Acupuncture is a technique in which very thin needles of varying lengths are inserted through the skin. The basic premise is that qi flows through the human body, and any blockages in this qi or some people even call it chi flow will result in illnesses and poor health.

A Short History of Acupuncture…

About 2500 years ago, China was already using acupuncture for the treatment of illnesses. Later, it spread to Japan and Korea. It was very much later during the 1700’s that a Jesuit priest brought it to Europe. However, it was only in the 1970’s, during President Nixon’s visit to China that acupuncture was ultimately introduced to the United States of America.

The Chinese believe that when qi or life energy is stuck at the meridian points, we fall ill or come down with some sort of diseases. It is only with the freeing up of these blockages through the use of needles that qi or our life energy is rebalanced and the flow is even out. Generally, practitioners will twirl the needles or use some form of electrical current to enhance the effect of the stimulation at these points. The timing of these treatments can be a few minutes up to an hour. Most people thought that needle is a must in acupuncture. But it is not true. Nowadays, fingers (acupressure fingering), laser acupuncture and moxibustion (using heat) can also be used.

Needles Used in Acupuncture

Since the meridian points are minute, large needles cannot be used. Or else, it will not be precise, and it may hurt our body. Hence, very fine needles are used. They can be 1mm thick and are generally inserted to up to one-quarter of an inch into our skin. To increase the impact of the 10 minutes or more (up to 60 minutes, sometimes) treatment, electricity may also be used to make the needles vibrate and impact the meridian points. The key here is to remove the two blockages varieties – excess qi or not enough qi issues. It is important that the practitioners are familiar with the relevant meridian points for treatment because different meridian points need to be stimulated for different illnesses.

What is the Effect of Acupuncture Treatment?

The lay person will think that acupuncture is painful. In fact, most people don’t feel a thing more than a tiny prick. When done right, you will even feel soothing. A good acupuncture treatment will normally have a few meridian points treated with anywhere from 2 to 20 needles at the same time. This has synergistic healing effect on the body.

Acupuncture for infertility problem is a common use of acupuncture. It can be used to make female ovulation more regular, reduce intercourse pain, and to reduce male blockages in the sperm ducts, and even increase the quality of the sperm. If you have alcoholic and smoking addiction, it can help too. Other illnesses which acupuncture has been know to be effective include migraine, arthritis, depression, spinal cord problems, and general pain issues.

Acupuncture and Energy Blockages…

Blockages along the meridian pathways in our body are the cause of imbalances and disease. Generally, the body, arms and legs are poked during treatment. However, during an acupuncture facial treatment really small needles are used to stimulate circulation and boost collagen. Patients do require intermittent follow up in order to maintain a result. It is also possible to modify nerve impulses to the spinal cord and brain.

Is Acupuncture All Hype Only?

Here is an interesting thing about acupuncture. Many people report feeling worse after treatment. However, if they persist with the treatment, they actually recover from the health problems. This is quite a difference in the Chinese and Western views of healing diseases. The Western goes for fast, the Chinese goes for slow – but, cure the root of the problem.

Acupuncture has proved effective in treating many ailments, particularly to relieve pain. Another great point is that acupuncture may boost your fertility by releasing hormones that promote conception. It has also proved to be effective in pregnancy management and for people with addictions. At the root of it, acupuncture is used to govern or correct the flow of ch'i to restore health.
